Conceptualized in the wake of the 2016 general election, Motivote is a gamified digital resource designed to raise young voter turnout around the country.
Co-founders Jessica Riegel (Wagner '18), Rachel Konowitz (Wagner '18), Emily Graham (Wagner '18), and Adam Steinberg (Wagner '18) developed the startup as part of their Capstone program, in pursuit of making civic engagement more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. By bridging the gap between intention and action, the tool leverages behavioral science to motivate individuals and organizations to engage in the democratic process.
How It Works:
- Pledge: Join a time with friends and pledge to vote in an upcoming election.
- Nudge: Utilize the app’s tools to hold yourself and your friends accountable with personalized nudges.
- Vote: When everybody on your team votes, you get money back (and awards along the way).
While at NYU, the Motivote team participated in the Startup Accelerator Program and NYU Entrepreneurs Challenge.
Through community-driven accountability, Motivote supports voters in not only showing up on Election Day, but becoming long-term advocates for civic participation.
