After the culmination of an unforgettable two weeks, we’re proud to congratulate the J-Term Startup Sprint Class of 2023!

From Jan. 9-20, 16 ventures representing 12 different NYU schools/departments gathered at the Leslie eLab to take part in the Startup Sprint, an intensive accelerator that challenges participants to deepen their customer discovery and test their business models.

This year’s J-Term Startup Sprint cohort accomplished a total of 544 customer discovery interviews and 21 coaching office hours. Teams partook in daily startup coaching and feedback sessions, skills-building workshops with startup experts and venture capitalists, and one-on-one coaching with experienced mentors.

Teams also unlocked access to the following benefits:

  • A $500 grant, plus an opportunity for select teams to receive up to $500 in additional funding
  • Over $5,000 in perks, including AWS and GitHub credits
  • Legal guidance from Fenwick & West

Special guest speakers at the Startup Sprint included Jonathan Sagot (Law ‘08) and Kristen Nicol (Law ‘17) of Fenwick & West; Andrew Kangpan (Stern ’13), principal at Two Sigma Ventures; and Mir Hwang (CAS ‘19), co-founder and CEO of GigFinesse.

Read below to find out what the most recent Startup Sprint cohort had to say about the program:

“The Startup Sprint challenged my assumptions about who my customer was and required me [to] engage with my target demographic on a personal level to really understand their problem and needs."
- John Borelli (Stern '23), Loom

“For myself, the J-Sprint embodied entrepreneurship and true startup spirit! Very special being surrounded by peers embarking on the same journey, all with unique skill sets and goals, getting to lift each other up and watch each other grow. From the first presentations — up to the last — everyone is truly just filled with eagerness because it's so fun getting to share, see, and be a part of each team."
- Megan Fricke (Tandon '22), Peeramid Labs, Inc.

“I met brave startup founders who, regardless of the challenges ahead, are dreaming nevertheless."
- Max Wang (GSAS ‘23), Giraffe

“Just do it! (Even if you are still at an early stage of the venture.)"
- Cecilia Pham (Stern '25), One Meta

“Just come. You won't regret it."
- Zitong Wang, IvorySquare

The next Startup Sprint will take place Monday, May 22, to Friday, June 2. RSVP to an info session to learn more and apply.
