Syed Barizuddin is an innovation and research commercialization professional with more
than 15 years of experience supporting university researchers, entrepreneurs, and
technology-based startups. His work has encompassed technology transfer, intellectual
property strategy, startup formation, customer discovery, venture development, and
securing federal funding through programs such as SBIR/STTR, state and angel investors.

Before joining NYU, Syed served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the
Missouri Innovation Center, where he led organizational strategy, operations,
entrepreneurship programs, and commercialization support for a portfolio of science- and
technology-based companies. He previously served as Program Director of the NIH-funded
Midwest Biomedical Accelerator Consortium and has founded and led technology startups
supported by NSF, NIH, DoD, and EPA.

Syed holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Missouri
and has a technical background in various STEM fields - biosensors, biomedical diagnostics,
nanotechnology, semiconductors, and advanced materials. He is an inventor on multiple
patents and disclosures, has authored peer-reviewed scientific publications, and has served
as a proposal reviewer for federal research and innovation programs. He is enthusiastic
about helping researchers translate promising discoveries into commercially viable
technologies, ventures, and real-world impact.
